Martin Schmied, graduate engineer in "Technical Environmental Protection", has been head of Department I "Environmental Planning and Sustainability Strategies" at the Federal Environment Agency since March 2022. The analysis and evaluation of economic and ecological instruments in the transport sector were the focus of his activities at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW). Sustainable mobility, green logistics, and carbon footprinting were the focus of his work at the Öko-Institut’s "Infrastructure and Enterprises" department, which he managed from 2007 to 2012. From 2012 to 2015, he was head of "Transport and Environment" at the Swiss research and consulting institute INFRAS, and from 2015 to 2022, he was manager of the Department I 2 "Transport, Noise and Spatial Development" at the Federal Environment Agency.
