Carina Kehrt has been a research associate at the Institute of Transport Research of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Berlin since April 2018. Since 2019, she has headed the working group "Strategic Freight Transport Forecasting", of the Institute of Transport Research, which has been renamed "Supply Planning for Transport Logistics" since 2022.
Currently, her thematic focus is on the following areas, among others: strategic route and logistics network planning, ecologically sustainable design of freight transport, city logistics, digitalisation and automation in freight transport at national and urban level, and long-distance mobility in freight transport. To analyse and forecast freight transport, Ms Kehrt uses various mathematical methods for forecasting, modelling, simulation and optimisation.
Ms Kehrt completed her doctorate in June 2018 at the Technical University of Dortmund, Institute of Transport Logistics, on the topic of Strategic Traffic Forecasting - Feedback of a Macroscopic Extrapolation with a Microscopic Traffic Simulation. She worked there as a research assistant from September 2011 to March 2018. Her focus was on freight transport modelling using system dynamics and microscopic agent-based transport modelling. Furthermore, she used various methods of empirical social research and statistics. From 2016 to 2018, she headed the Transport Modelling and Process Planning working group there.
